Preparation was the key.
I took a small room in the harbour town of Tykosa. I settled in for the night asking for a bottle of water before getting to sleep. It was 1982 and the tourist industry had picked up and therefore this was good cover for myself. I bedded down realising how humid it was.
On the wall I could just visually make out an insect on the wall. A mosquito?
I wasnt sure if this be a local insect or one of the more dangerous type. I tried to sleep. An hour into the night I was disturbed.
Mosquitos can cause viral diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya. Dengue fever is the most common cause of fever in travelers returning from the Carribean, Central America & South Central Asia. Severe dengue fever can be fatal.
A black crow had entered into my room. It seemed she had a staff key to gain entry. The woman quietly stepped over to me by the bedside and poured a sachet of powder into my
glass of water. She quickly escaped. I was disturbed and turned over. I searched to take a sip of water.
Dosed and disturbed I slowly opened my eyes to a very disturbed train of thought. I was poisoned.
I was kept well aware of in training at the forces base back in England the misuse of illicit drugs was a major offence. This I took note of, but on the occasion I was on the receiving end. Some minutes later I woke up very dazed and was able to escape from the premises, although quite unsteady. I staggered around the room and made sure that I had covered my tracks. I had escaped attempted murder!
I staggered out into the fresh air up my nostrils and successfully regaining my balance.
It was still dark but realised I had just escaped from a murder attempt.
I made my way to what I recognised what was the road to the harbour. There were a few gulls perched about on the rooftops awaiting dawn. I looked around to see if I was being followed - no one. I got to the pier where the ferry had docked for the night and I attempted to gather as much information as possible for the ferry to Santorini.
