The French Tour 1983

Return

In 1983 I toured France with my College mate David. My Communications Nine .../---/... was to determine the ------ feeling to the Falklands War as the British fought with the Argentinians and present my findings to the class. The Argentinians fought well, but they knew what the Chinese philosopher Confucius (900 years before Jesus) said: 'War never determined who was right - but who was left.' The British also knew this and it was good that they managed to end the war quickly with as little casualties as possible. These days relations with Argentina and the British are good.

*************

I was reared in Irvine; David - Kilwinning.
We travelled from Calais to La Rochelle - an old castletown. The castle was a port defence with two towers. David & myself relaxed there for a day with an overnight stay and then went on our way to Bordeaux via Rocheford - the famous name of a French cheese.

The train rolled through the French landscapes in the sunshine & the rain. We made a connection at Bordeaux. David was asleep. I was wide awake having done Tai Chi in the past two years. The rule of thumb was self-awareness.

The train left Bordeaux on time and flew through the small French villages & towns of the South of France to Marseille. It was here that David and myself parted company as David had business to do in St Tropez. Calling up a few girls I thought! I travelled on to Italy and then Switzerland pickin up information along the way.
